The Spirit of a Horse Portrait

For many a horse is more than a pet - it's a cherished family member and a trusted companion. A commissioned horse portrait is the perfect tribute to this special and unique relationship.
Last year I had the pleasure of drawing my first horse portrait of beautiful Polly, commissioned as a surprise Christmas gift. My aim was to capture her gentle spirit in a highly detailed equine portrait.
A portrait can convey the horse's physical attributes of strength, grace and elegance but also illustrate its less obvious quiet and powerful majesty. During the drawing process the pet portrait I'm working on doesn't come alive until I have drawn the eyes and horses eyes in particular are soulful, gentle and wise, the spirit and focus of the portrait.
There are many quotes highlighting the spirit of the horse and the deep bond it forms with humans, the best part of which is 'that it brings us in contact with ther rare elements of grace, beauty, spirit and freedom.'
If you'd like to honour the spirit of this special bond between a horse and their owner in a commissioned horse portrait email me at louise@loureadart.co.uk or via the website contact page.
